With the impending launch of HSPA+ 4G services from both Digicel (May) and Bmobile (September), it’s worth noting which popular devices support HSPA and at what speeds.

Realistically, I don’t see either mobile carrier going beyond 3Mbits/sec in their 4G service at launch which means that pretty much all the devices below are (in theory) going to be able to make full advantage of what is provided.

The chart above highlights a point i was making here about why HSPA is a better “next step” than LTE right now for Trinidad & Tobago. We already have capable devices in the majority of smart-phone users hands. When Digicel and Bmobile flip the on switch, a minority of people will have to purchase new devices – mainly the users still holding on to the ageing Curve 8520′s.

Hope this brief guide is useful to you guys, having used 3G/4G with my phones while on travel, I can assure you it’ll be a whole new experience.

Well finally 3g is being rolled out in Trinidad. Welcome to the present. My problem is advertising that its 4g when its 3g tech

  4. What is 4G capable means? Looks like the max speed is 21 Mbps.. At least it should support DC-HSAP+ (42 Mbps) to be labelled 4G-capable. 3G Modules speeds depend on the network, while some claim LTE is true 4G, some carriers are using 42Mbps as 4G network

i see u have displayed the phones that may be used with both ISPs but, currently Digicel uses the 1900 band. Any insight on the band that would be used by TSTT. I doubt they would use the same as Digicel, if this information is shared may people will not have to upgrade their cell phones, once an individual phone is on one the supported bands and is HSPA or HSPA+ everything should be fine.

    • TriniBerry says:

TSTT have to give up the 1800Mhz spectrum, both Bmobile and Digicel devices use the same spectrum bands

  6. CptAwesomeTT says:

1800Mhz is what is used for 2g and voice by TSTT. As Digicel is already using 1900Mhz band, is it possible they will use another band, maybe 1900 or 2100?

    • TriniBerry says:

Well spectrum doesn’t work exactly like that, they both use the same bands, but the actual frequecy will be different so one may have 1901 – 1903 and the other might have 1905 – 1907. But its still referred to as the 1900 band
